Hi Del – The most powerful way to do it is to take the interests of multiple tiers of customers (current, on-the-fence, actively refusing offer, and prospects) and the potential competitors for those customers’ time, money, and attention into account during strategic planning. Use those insights to inform the selection of strategic elements/differentiators that will be more resilient when you encounter those competitors and objections in your day-to-day business. You won’t successfully compete against all those interests all the time, but by considering them in the planning phase you will make a better strategy. Andrea

I understood and agreed until the end but then you lost me. How do you take all those interests into your pricing strategy at once? Is this one of those “and then some magic happens here” things, or is this something companies really do, because if it is I want to know.

And a poor job of social media is worse than none at all. On a recent visit to update my queue at Netflix.com, I saw the site has a new feature that I really dislike. I wanted to write to let them know. My options were to call, with a 12 minute hold, and… and… no other options, no email contact form.

Finally, a posted a comment to their blog. To which they have not responded.

And guess what? A bunch of other people are posting comments to their blog — apparently they can’t find a place to contact them either. And — they’re not responding to THIER comments either!

If they’re not going to respond, they should close comments.
